Black in America
CNN is showing this investigative piece entitled Black in America this week. Its like 2 hours about how much it sucks to be Black in this country if you don't have the opportunity to grow up in a household with a mom and dad and encouraged to further your education. I was reading something on a blog recently about how the media portrays too many negative images of Black people so that most other races cannot relate to other images of Black people that don't involve poverty or violence. This show kind of reflects that and I was like damn would it kill them to balance out the ticket and show MORE unconventional successful Black people who live regular lives and don't have to worry about baby mamas or baby daddies?

more about the show )

Anyway the whole show was just a bunch of WTF moments for me, its like cultural stagnation. BUT then again the people they focused the interviews on were older, I wonder what the program would be like if they interviewed some people in their teens to mid 20s. I feel as if the topic itself can't be boiled down to 4 hours, you could spend days discussing the plight of the Black woman alone!

The best part of the show was the dude doing some cool poetry in between commercial breaks lol. The second part of the show airs tonight and it focuses on Black Men.

Anyway back to my initial point, we need more positive portrayals of all minorities in the media so that we get to know them as individuals instead of a group of negative stereotypes. I hope they do some kind of follow up show in the future where they emphasize African American ACHIEVEMENTS instead of just the struggles. On this show they did portray some successful people but the focus of the show was more on the struggles I think, its like you know we see the struggles daily on the news and in real life, we hardly hear about the good stuff.

Since the show aired on CNN I kind of wonder who their target audience was for this in the first place?

Maybe I should post an "I'm alive" message. I felt the earthquake last night but it wasn't bad here in Tokyo and I didn't realize it was such a big one until I woke up today and saw Versailles' blogs covered in "OMG that was scary, we're okay, is everyone else okay?" posts. (They were still in the north and closer to the epicenter.)

It's hot again today and I think I'm going to flee to the gym because my apartment isn't air conditioned. I'd been really bad about exercising for over a year, but since it got really hot last week I've been to the gym 5 times already to use the pool. Actually, I went the last two days in a row. ^^; And no, I haven't just been hanging out in the pool, I've made myself do a cardio workout each time as well, so I'm getting in shape. But the main draw is the cool, wonderful pool.

Megumi Nakajima live
I just noticed something peculiar about Megumi-chan in this video...

She's... a leftie!

And here's the same performance, in Macross Frontier episode 12. They did the SAME choreography, LOL. You can even check it yourself -- they cut the beginning of the song so the segment in the anime is the same as the one that starts at 1:53 in the video above. (And watch out for the kawaii part at 2:22 in the video above and 0:32 in the video below. So moe~~~!)

And check out her blog. She even has a post partially written in Tagalog. (Try the Google-translated version to make sense of it.) She's adorable!

I am a firm believer that books could change a person's life. Books inspire, cultivate, educate.

Acts of Hope for the Nation or Ahon Foundation is an organization that helps public schools all over the country build their own library - in exchange of assurance that the community of the said school will contribute to that library.

Ahon foundation have been empowering lives of various communities in the Philippines for two years, building 13 libraries for 24,000 public school children.

Do-di-do.
Apologies for the sudden deluge of RPlurk-related archive posts on LJ, all~ I finally got around to fixing all the backlogged threads, and it can't fit into a single post. o_o

This week has been pretty light so far~ today is notable because I had graded recitation in Lit 13, and it was actually pretty lively. Several nice conversations cropped up in the smoket too.

There's work to do, but all is well. Going to the office tomorrow to put in that day that I've been promising the people down there for nearly two months.

Seriously. All is well. Seems as though I've recovered from that small rut I had over the weekend.

Er. That's all. QUICK POSTS ARE QUICK.

T________T
I was trying really hard not to remember how AC Milan sucked last season and how they did not qualify for CL this season when Star Sports decided to show a replay of a Milan game in which they lost to Arsenal. Can I just say, ouch?

I'm sorely tempted to get the bloody remote from the guard and change the effing channel.

Also reasons why I want the transfer season to end soon:

Calcio Debate: Should Milan Sell Kaka For €100m?

Madrid Have Asked About Kaká - Galliani

Chelsea Now Make €150m Kaka Offer

Chelsea set to land Kaka for record £80m

I know all those rumours had been denied by both clubs, but the transfer season is still a long way from closing so...Ugh.

I just wish they'd all just stick to Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer saga to Real Madrid, really.

Totally unrelated: The Dark Knight is awesome. It was worth watching on the big screen. I love it to pieces. God, Joker, Harvey, Bruce! (although I want to give Batman Strepsils whenever he talks. Guh)

So I ended up taking a sort-of hiatus from LJ, though I still read through my F-list every couple of hours. :'D Posting is something else, though. Or doing anything productive, for that matter. MOST OF IT IS BECAUSE FOCUSING GIVES ME A HEADACHE, OKEY. :<

Kinda busy at work. I don't think it'll let up until mid-October, but here's to hoping~ In the mean time, reading LJ, Oofuri RPlurking, and chat keeps me sane (and awake) most days. XD Will prolly be off my desk a lot more often soon, though, meetings are starting to seep in orz.

So like, do I owe you guys anything? Fics I forgot about, doujin jobs, proofing jobs, etc? orz. I have a few post-it notes stuck to my DS, but I never seem to finish the stuff on it. ;A;

That is me when I wake up and realize it's not a weekend yet and I can't sleep all morning =__=

I've been having the weirdest dreams lately... Mostly me killing people. I usually end up being an assassin, ninja or hired mercenary in my dreams. And the setting? The latest movie/TV show I watched (kaya may giant snake sa isa kasi napanuod ko yung MEGASNAKE sa bus...). The people? My officemates (although I haven't spotted Keith in any of them). I killed a former employee in one. And somehow, Naharu would always poke out from the most peculiar places.

Weird.

Nyhoot...

Wala nang oras para mag edit ng picture =___=

Recap!
Yes. My life has been taken over by that little social microblogging site called plurk. I find it so addictive that I spend more time there than blogging here, something which I hope to remedy because heck, I've had this livejournal for years already!

A lot has happened during the time between updates---and it's too long to narrate. Let me share a few highlights in easily digestible bullets. (Bullets? Yes, another fault of plurk.)

261/365 Handmade pants• Been trying to sew a little more. My most recent success is a pair of pants for my boys. Tried to sew a pair of dolly jeans last night too, but it's very rough. I'll probably distress it or something as an excuse to hide the sloppy sewing but hey, it's wearable.

Kitchen Cow on Blog-o-RamaKitchen Cow was in the limelight! Did an online interview when it was featured in the blog spotlight section of a national daily, but the sweeter feat was getting a mini-review in a localized version of T3. I wasn't even aware of it, until a friend YMed me to ask if it was my blog in the magazine. Finally snagged a copy yesterday and I've been on cloud 9 ever since.

• Finished the last few episodes of Avatar, The Last Airbender. Blown away! A fitting end to the series. I LOVE YOU, ZUKO!

• Finished watching Zettai Kareshi. Soushi / Mizushima Hiro forever! <3 <3 <3

262/365 Mini Photobook• We released the Pullip-sized version of The Boys of Summer. Heeheehee.

• Was obsessesed with Poupee girl again, but I was thinking about it last night and I think I need to slow down again.

260/365 Rainy wants bento!Bubi, the creator of Treeson, actually faved one of my Treeson pics on Flickr! Yes, it takes very little to make me happy, hahahaha!

• Watched The Dark Knight. *squee*

The past few weeks in small, manageable doses. I do hope to get back to posting on a regular basis. Will try to catch up with everyone's lives as well. Hope I manage!

Dude. _what_ Okay There's nothing I can say about you releasing our marks late. There's nothing I can say about the whole mainly having correspondence online thing which the entire course and subject does. I can only say that it's my bad luck for not being able to check my mail daily.

BUT WHAT THE HELL. I have never gotten 0 for any assignments at all before. Seriously. Was my movie review SO BAD that you couldn't give me a mark? Oi?
Not to mention, I read the marking requirements and I could point at at least two points where I should have earned some points for.
And there's no way I get a 0 for grammar problems because I usually check for them before I submit an assignment. Man, are you seriousl telling me the amount of points I earned for my movie review resulted in a 0.1 or 0.2 out of the 3% we all get for this part of the assignment, in which case I can onl get a 0 out of 3%?
DID MY ASSIGNMENT REALLY SUCK THAT BADLY?

OI!

Unless you're really that strict a marker. In which case, there's nothing I can say.

Also, another thing about my lack of internet, I just found out there's a club meeting today.
... like... in another less than 2 hours. >_____>
Guuuuuuys I already told you i don't have internet access all the time!!!
It's not my fault you don't see me there today, okay? >__>;;;

Siiigh. *sms-es the secretary*

I'mma dig out my assignment, look at it. Compare it to their marking requirements and then gonna make a reply to the tutor.
Sheesh.

Hello, internet
Hisashiburi da ne~

Haven't been online or using the computer since I was at aunt's because I had to leave it at her house. Sigh. So I got nothing done, fandom-wise. XD
... Also, I hate this temporary laptop. It seems to be failing more and more evertime I see it. I would love to reformat this thing once I get permission to. Grrr.
Why is the internet refusing me access to hotmail and gmail and yet allows me access to LJ? OI!

I could've sworn I had something to type about. >_> But I can't remember what it is now.

Uhm... random shout. WHY AM I STILL HOPELESSLY IN LOVE WITH SAINT BEAST? OTL
God. Why? Whhhhy? Whenever I think I've fallen out of love, I just need to listen to one track of drama and I'm all back in love with it. Siiiigh.

Uragiri wa boku no namae wo shitteiru
This manga is all about guilty pleasure. The plot isn't anything special, seriously. XD It has all the typicallities and predictabilities of your average manga.
BUT
I still follow it because of the pretty.
I feel like I fail so hard. XD

Kinokuniya buys:
Uraboku vol 4 (Is it too much to hope for a Tsukumo related plot somehow? Even though all he has is his sister complex? *_*)
Amatsuki vol 1 (Gaaah. *pinches Chibi Toki*)

Announcement
Friendslist in Malaysia.
Would anyone be interested in Seiyuu Animedia August 2008 issue?
There's only like one article in there I'm interested in so I've decided not to get it. (Even though it's Suzu. *twitch*)
I'm gonna ask Kino to release the mag so... uh... if anyone wants it I can just pass you the order code and let you go pick it up. >_>

SALAMAT PO.

Today I have made an entry in Tagalog. With this, it should be sent along to my cousins. Heheh.

Translation:
Good evening everyone. I express my thanks for your continuous appreciation on my blog. From now on, I will do my best to make all of you entertained. Thank you.

Furthermore, the official languages used in the Philippines are Tagalog and English...but Mamegu-san couldn't speak any of them. Hahaha. It's no good. Try your best a little bit further, Mamegu.

Everyone, do bananas ring a bell when you say "Philippines"? Or is it dried mangoes?
They're both good. In Japan, they cost too much to buy one of them!

...no, locally they are sold very cheap... Yeah, I suppose.

By the way, I celebrated my 17th birthday in the Philippines but the birthday cake was stupidly dealt with. It was square; its length and width were about 30cm and 50cm respectively, I guess.

Choco Choco Choco... all are completely chocolate......

I ate a slice all the way down. Ah, ah, it's sweet and it's very sweet.

But, a lot of my relatives came and my brothers were absent. I was so very glad!!

My parents of course, the airport personnel, the people at the department store and the city people looked very warm. Because at the moment I stepped down from the airplane, all of the people who were doing their jobs in the airport were wearing Aloha shirts!

Ah, of course there are also people in their uniforms, though more importantly that kind of cheerful feeling. It is considerably friendly.

There is one thing that I couldn't experience when I live in Japan and that is the strong feeling of relationship/bonding among people.

I LOVE PHILIPPINES!!

AND

I LOVE JAPAN!!

Oh dear, I am such a happy person.
*poses proudly*

*******************
she refers to herself as Mamegu twice in that entry,
if you seem confused about who Mamegu was...
damn! time to send some dried mangos to her place ASAP ! XD

Birthdays (and snow...)
Happy Birthday, Emily~!

May your day be grand, Puppy~

Other news? It's snowing on the mountains. In July. Where the hell did our summer go? The last time any of us can remember any sort of summer heat was for teh 4th of July. Ever since then, it's been raining and chilled. Sunshine? What's that? And here I was expecting a dry as hell, hot summer like last year *laughs*

I woke up last night at 11PM (after going to bed 'round 9PM and getting talked to by some guy on third floor) in a panic, thinking I was late and wondering why no one had woken me up before. My roommate just laughed and told me it was 11 at night. So I went back to sleep....only to wake up at 2AM from an 'emergancy alarm' on my phone. It was time to go save someone, but I didn't know who I was supposed to save, so I just stayed in bed until I realized what time it was (2:34AM) and went back to sleep. Y_Y

And today I get to train the new guy, Mike Green, on the ways of cleaning the third floor bathrooms. Yeehaw.

and I wish the internet would stop being stupid and work for once. >____>

Because I've fallen in love.
I followed the Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog last week and I have fallen in love.

Wit, humor, drama, and a musical! What is not to love?! And I must say, Neil Patrick Harris has a great singing voice!

It's unfortunate that after the free streaming the only way to view the 3 episodes is via iTunes, which is only limited to USA and Canada.

I promised myself that I will buy the DVD and soundtrack when it is made available!

For the mean time, I shall fill this empty void that was created when the videos disappeared with... a mood theme!!! Because I apparently had a lot of time in my hands.

Tanoshikatta.

This keychain from Kimi-sensei brought back all the memories of the past ten months that the moment I took it out from the little envelope it was put in and saw the group picture in front of Kongobuji in Koyasan, tears started falling.

It's personalized, too. You see the number '75901'? That is my student number. Each one of the AIKOM students has their own student number on their keychains.

We love you, Kimi-sensei.<3 I'll treasure this keychain for the rest of my life.
