marketing fail! a local clothing store is using toy cameras as the theme for their latest advertising campaign. as part of their promotions, they are giving away -- their words, not mine -- a HOLGA LOMO camera (HOLGA + LOMO = HOMO?!) -.-;;

fyi you losers LOGO and HOLGA are both brand names, and competing brand names at that. it's like saying you're giving away a MERCEDES BENZ model called the BMW; do your research, morons.

this also the very same clothing chain that claimed that their previous campaign was based on PINKY:ST, except that their clothes did not resemble the toy line in any way whatsoever. idiots.

no wonder your main competitor has been handing your ass back to you for the past -- i dunno, six seasons. get a clue!

btw -- KAMERAWORLD is now an official local reseller for LOMOGRAPHY.COM.

their prices are competetive when compared to purchasing a camera from the website and then getting slapped by local customs taxes. however, LOMOs are currently available at just three branches: MALL OF ASIA, GALLERIA, and TRINOMA. give them a phone call to check first~!

btw -- this is not a paid advertisement~ XD i just wanted to get the word out since they can be an alternative to direct website sales from the LOMOGRAPHY website, as well as MULTIPLY resellers. better warranty too since the store covers that for you~

Youka Nitta to Quit Manga Work, Back Catalog Pulled

Manga artist Youka Nitta has deleted her entire webpage and blog on Tuesday, and left only an apology in the wake of revelations that she traced photographs in her works. In the apology, she reiterated her sorrow over the "copyright infringement in using photographs I thought 'looked good' in my illustrations." She added that she will stop future writing work and apologized again to the copyright holders of the photographs, the people involved, "and the readers who have enjoyed the works of Youka Nitta, even for just a little bit."

The Japanese publisher Libre has pulled direct links to Nitta's back-catalog from its b-boy website — including even mentions of her works in Libre's CD catalog and product news. Nitta's apology on the front page and the bulletin board dedicated to her still remain on the site, and the pages about some of her works are still indirectly available by searching for her name from other products' pages.

three boxes of PINKYs and one of pr0n = TAXES! but -- being the sneaky little whatsit i am, i managed to talk my way out of paying the full amount by cajoling them into reducing this percentage and that percentage until i got it down to the amount i was glad to pay.

so uh -- does anybody want to buy TSURUYA-SAN and YUKI NAGATO? i have three extras of each doll, since HLJ flubbed my order and shipped me twice as many as i intended. i didn't give them any grief over that since it was also partially my fault for not checking, but i still ended up with more dolls than i wanted (or needed) and have to get rid of them somehow.

i am considering purchasing a nice hefty MIRANDA rangefinder with a macro lens i found in a QUIAPO 2nd-hand store. MIRANDA models have a good reputation for up-close photography, since there were manufactured as scientific equipment, with swap-in microscope attachments and similar accesories.

the only problem so far is that i didn't take note of the model number to do some research with on the intertubes. reading up on a bunch of sites, i discovered that MIRANDA-made cameras came with either manual or automatic diaphragms. also, all but their AUTOMEX line did not come with a built-in exposure meters.

i need the automatic with the exposure meters -- i'm a complete n00b at this!!! x.X;; if all else fails, i will have to settle for the CANON (which did not grab me as much). well there was that one CANON with the telephoto lens -- but it's the macro lens i need plzkthx.

OLD MANILA is a wonderful place to explore on foot...

nina organized a walking food trip in BINONDO (CHINATOWN) based off her experiences from DAVID CELDRAN's WALK THIS WAY tours. starting off at DONG BEE for rice dumplings (behind BINONDO CHURCH/SHRINE OF SAN LORENZO RUIS), we made our way to ANG TUNAY NA BEEF noodle house on ESTERO 2 (yes, you literally are next to an open sewage outlet lol~), and finally to PANCITERIA LIDO for old-style siphon-brewed coffee.

the wonderful food and great company (new PLURK pals eric, melo, and juned -- also circle-of-friends couple arpee and zane) made walking under the late afternoon sun and crossing semi-flooded streets an adventure instead of a pain -- a vast improvement coming from someone who refuses to go to DIVISORIA on a rainy day XD

the day wound down with rael and i heading off to QUIAPO to look at old camers in HIDALGO, and catch a ride back to ye olde BACLARAN. i was tired but too keyed up by the coffee to turn in early, and ended up half an hour late for work because i slept at 2AM. 7AM call-time DO NOT WANT! TAT;;

in local news, two lulz-worthy "situations" have bubbled up from nowhere, both of which are -- strangely enough, remotely connected to the previous TOYCON. one would be pretentious doll-owner related, the other pretentious wannabe-bigwig cosplayer related. locked posts and giant flaming comments abound, and lulz have been had by all (at least, all who are privy to it).

and i already have three things on my list TAT;;

a very small casual photography club sprouted up at the office, composed mainly of me, neenaa, and jason with each person having their own speciality. jason does high-def DSLR and portraiture, i prefer point-and-shoot macro as well as dabble in POLAROID, while nina loves HOLGA and LOMO.

all three of us got to talking about casual photography, plus i also spam shabby on PLURK, and they've all convinced me to get a new LOMO (to replace the late, lamented ACTION SAMPLER i misplaced some time ago).

i have narrowed my choices down to three cameras. i'd love to get all three but for now i can only afford one. okay, i lie -- i can actually afford zero, but if i manage my finances right (or cajole someone into buying if for me instead pretty please lol) i might be able to get at least one.

each camera has its own pros and cons. the ACTION SAMPLER FLASH has a built-in flash and takes larger pictures, but the other cameras only cost two-thirds of this one.

the POP9 also has a built-in flash and is heck of lot cheaper than the ACTION SAMPLER FLASH, but the pictures you end up taking are tiny in comparison. lastly, the OKTOMAT -- which costs as much as the POP9, takes slightly larger pictures and comes in supercute LEGO plastic red, but has no flash.

one thing's for sure though: a new LOMO will be cheaper than four boxes of POLAROID refills x.X;;

i was supposed to scan two KOF 2004 KYO x IORI doujinshi last night, but i got lazy. no, i did not play KOF. and no, i do not know why i have them. i just remember them being cheap (a dollar each) and having nice art so i bought them off a garage sale.

for a half-demon, IORI sure is weepy. and prone to behavior observed mostly in heroines of bodice-ripper novels.
